Recently, WOCU-Monitoring has
added
installation support for the RedHat 8 distribution
.
In this post, we show you the reasons for expanding the supported
catalog of Linux distributions and the advantages of installing
WOCU-Monitoring on a
RedHat Enterprise Linux system.

While WOCU-Monitoring can be installed on
Debian, Ubuntu, and RedHat distributions,
we used CentOS (version 7) as the base system to generate .RPM packages until now,
not RedHat itself. Once the CentOS Linux distribution
ceased to be maintained by RedHat
(replaced by CentOS Stream, which is not recommended for production environments), we made the leap to use
RedHat 8 as the base system.

Advantages of Using RedHat

There are many reasons why a company
may require an installation of WOCU-Monitoring on RedHat.
Here are some of them:

  • The stable distribution’s support and maintenance period is 10 years. This extended period
provides peace of mind to system administrators, as they do not have to
update the base system on which the tool is installed. Ultimately, administrators want something that works and works well, without having to worry about updating and making
    adaptations or changes to configurations.

  • RedHat provides professional, high-level support for the
operating system while WOCU-Monitoring supports the application. This combination
provides greater security in critical environments, where the support of a company like RedHat is appreciated. Additionally, it complies with numerous security certifications
    such as the Common Criteria.

  • Installations on RedHat include
    tools like RedHat Insights,
which provides extra visibility into the deployed infrastructure. This involves continuous analysis of the platform and its applications to detect security risks, suggest actions, etc., all from a visual and intuitive administration panel.

WOCU-Monitoring gives clients the opportunity
to decide which operating system best suits their needs in On-Premise environments. The RPM installation packages distributed by WOCU-Monitoring, in addition to working on RedHat 8 systems,
should be compatible with distributions equivalent to that version, such as Alma Linux,
Oracle Linux, or
Rocky Linux, although their correct operation is not guaranteed at this time.

But WOCU-Monitoring can also
be deployed in Cloud environments. This is content we will develop in
another post.
